Introduction: The Story Of Paul Shaw's Supercharged '93 Avus Blue US E34 M5
For most of the truly serious E34 M5 owner/enthusiasts out there simply owning what is quite literally one of the absolute finest examples of the US E34 M5 that exists today would be the ultimate achievement. Especially if that particular E34 M5 also just happened to be in a rare and very desirable color combination of which only a few were even produced Avus blue with the light silver grey interior. If that were not already enough to get a few asking where their bank check needed to be delivered first thing in the morning, imagine if this particular M5 also happened to have very low mileage about 23-24K original documented miles to be specific.

Well, for Paul Shaw even after he added a brand new set of M Parallels and the appropriate new tires sometime last year as well as the original BMW E34 M5 factory spoiler, there was still something needed to make his E34 M5 even more unique and spectacular. Based on the specific details already mentioned by others, the car had obviously very quickly max'd out the visual appeal scale since beautiful, stunning, spectacular, unbelievable were already words almost always used by others when they had first seen it. Many even somehow find a way to use most if not all of the possible adjectives together in their own immediate descriptions after taking a closer look at this truly outstanding example of the E34 M5.

Then Paul decided to venture in to the unknown with the idea of adding a supercharger to his ’93 US E34 M5, which also happens to be one of the finest examples in North America, I urged him to think this through before proceeding. Since we already knew each other, we had a bit of fun during the discussion of his contemplating this idea amongst the members of the E34 M5 Mailing List. I’ve also included a few of the more memorable comments made during that rather interesting discussion since their humor would be appreciated by some of you that are taking the time to read this now.

The reality of all of this is that it’s Paul’s car and he can therefore do with it as he pleases regardless of what anyone else may think is the right thing to do. Since Paul is also another enthusiast with two previous generation ///M-cars, as he also owns a stunning Cinnabar red M6, he would never do anything that could possible jeopardize his E34 M5. Therefore we knew this car would remain basically an original example with the exception of the supercharger and the recently added spoiler and M Parallel’s. Each then simply making it an even more unique and interesting car amongst the other few US E34 M5’s which were also produced in Avus blue. The M Parallel’s simply make the Avus M5 even more striking when you first see it, the supercharger is completely concealed from view externally so there is no outward sign that anything has actually been changed or modified which is absolutely perfect for maintaining the E34 M5’s original visual appeal.
