Building The Perfect Beast
Introduction: The Story Of Paul Shaw's Supercharged Avus Blue US E34 M5, Page Two
Introduction: Continued from previous page
I ran the idea by Paul to see if he would be interested in documenting this project so that it could then be shared with other E34 M5 owners and enthusiasts around the world. I had done this just as he was about to take the car in to the shop to begin the project, as that way he could shoot the appropriate photos and also document the process as it happened rather than trying to go back and do this from memory, after the fact. He has written about this project in three different phases as it moved along, which works perfectly for presenting data on what was actually done within each of them. As with any major project like this, you need to reach certain milestones or objectives before proceeding to the next phase or step to its completion. This also then keeps the entire project in the proper perspective as well. Otherwise it could also become much easier to loose focus of where you are going and what actually needs to be done to ensure that all of this was a success.

One part which really hit me about all of this in regard to the actual project itself, above Paul’s obvious bravery and confidence for even considering doing such a project on a perfect example of the E34 M5, was his absolute trust of both Shawn and Ryan. With their shop Kinetic Motorsport they had obviously done previous supercharger installations on a wide variety of cars in the past.

However, adding any form of forced induction to the S38, which was basically tuned on the ragged edge from the factory, was a huge gamble and risk to say the least. Yet Paul had absolute confidence in their abilities as soon as they had finished their first discussion in regard to the possibility of making this all a reality. I must also mention that both Shawn and Ryan maintained their same level of focus and motivation throughout this entire project even though it actually took considerably longer than first thought to reach the point where they were completely satisfied with their results. If they had not done exactly that, this car could have then easily ended up sitting in a corner of the shop collecting dust instead of being the actual subject of this special feature on the bayaream5s.com website. When looking at it in that perspective you get a real feel of how complex all of this was when most would not actually step back to see the entire picture in that way.

With that all being said, I have nothing but tremendous respect for Paul, as the daring owner of this spectacular E34 M5, Shawn and Ryan for their tenacity to see this project through to their being personally satisfied with its results and also to Pat Philpot for spending all of his time on the R&D efforts necessary to come up with this specific supercharger and all of its parts and components. Congratulations to each one of these key contributors to the success of this project, as without any ones individual contributions this would not be considered a success today as it is.
